Evolution of my man-stopper dog training method – Marino’s Gertie G’s first protection session

I’ve been spending some time going through old videos that I’ve made over the years which has allowed me to watch my development unfold as I moved away from the standard YouTube-land “protection” dog training that I got sucked up into. I started training my guard dogs back in the late 1980s, working my dogs in defense drives. Then the YouTube protection dog world came along, and I was introduced to various methods that were grounded in predatory drive. I slowly started to realize that, at worst, many of the dogs I was watching were only playing a game of tug. And, at best, the dogs were hunting rather than fighting.

This video goes back about 4 years to when I first started seriously working with Gertie in guard dog work. Even then I had a good threat display on command, and I was working my dogs in defense rather than prey drive.
