This is Marino’s Apollonia Vitelli at about two years old. She is the first dog that I trained in protection with a new style under the guidance of Grandmaster Protection Dog Trainer, Gypsy Stratten. I’ve since developed my style of man-stopper dog training using the best methods I’ve learned about dog training – taking what I can use, and leaving the rest behind.
Appie was never worked on a sleeve but rather in a muzzle. In Appie’s mind, this is a serious bad guy, not some tug helper holding a bite sleeve. It takes the right foundation and training to achieve this level of handling and control with a dog that is in a defensive, or protective state of mind. The bad guy looks further away than he was in this video because I had the GoPro set to ultra-wide. I’m using a short five-foot lead here.
