Like most people, I started out training my guard dogs using the traditional bite sleeve. However, I was never satisfied with the results offered with sleeve work for multiple reasons. Years later I started working my dogs in a muzzle, and I’ll never go back to sleeve work again. The muzzle offers so much more in terms of authenticity in the scenarios.
With a muzzle, I’m able to do things with my training that would be impossible using the bite-sleeve methods. Here are some of my thoughts and another resource for training.
I took this course before working with Gypsy Stratten. The reason for this updated course by Leerburg was that police dogs often become equipment junkies, just like most of the “protection dogs” we see on YouTube.
